"What About IT?" at Beckley-Stratton Middle School
On March 20, 2012 parents and girls attended an informative AITES event at Beckley-Stratton Middle School in Beckley, West Virginia, conducted by Barbara Warden and Janet Warden. The event began with the video "You Can Be Anything," and Barbara Warden, librarian at Beckley-Stratton, presented the AITES message. Participants learned how to be stokers to assist girls while building and supporting their interest in IT careers. Melissa Aquilar from Region 1 Work Force West Virginia informed the audience that there are 70 IT job opportunities presently in Region 1. She explained that summer jobs were available through her office for girls interested in exploring the field of IT. Kathy Lazenby, a Raleigh County Public Schools IT professional, shared her interesting journey to a career in IT. Parents and girls discussed the important of IT in all jobs in the future.
