Position: Director of IT Client Services & Compliance, Alpha Natural Resources, LLC

What I do: The Department of Client Services & Compliance encompasses Support Services groups from VA, KY, PA, WV and WY. My staff & I are responsible for supporting IT related systems (from desktop computers and laptops to Mesh networks and mine tracking systems).  Project Management is a high priority along with training and an enhanced focus on customer service for our users. I work with each IT department and internal/external auditors to focus on effective computer controls for preventing fraud.

 

What I like about my job: It changes on a daily basis, always offers a challenge, and gives me the opportunity to interact with colleagues from other departments and disciplines. As an IT leader – you have to keep up with the changing technologies and encourage lifelong learning – not only for me, but everyone on my team.

 

Anything else you would like to say: IT and the coal industry have always been very male-dominated environments. It is encouraging to see young ladies coming into the IT department at Alpha Natural Resources.  IT is actually a very diverse career path. The options today are countless as technology touches so many parts of our lives.
