Support Analyst for RAI Services Company
What I do:
I have worked in the Information Technology department at RAI Services Company for 10 years. I directly support the Trade Marketing organization within our company by producing web-based reporting that allows our sales force to track their performance throughout the year and help them determine how they can better sell our products. I work closely with our business analysts to determine the needs of our users and the business rules surrounding those needs, then design and implement the solutions. I have the opportunity to work with a variety of different technologies, such as SharePoint, Hyperion, Java, and various database platforms.
What I like about my job:
I work closely with my co-workers to coordinate project tasks and to design efficient and effective solutions and I enjoy working as a part of a team. While my job greatly utilizes my critical thinking and problem-solving skills, I enjoy the fact that I can also be creative when designing new reports or web pages or when coming up with solutions to problems. I also enjoy the customer service side of my job. Assisting my clients and end-users by providing answers to questions and helping them find solutions to problems is both satisfying and rewarding.
I rarely do the same thing every day and I am constantly learning and growing and I think this is an important aspect to have in a career because it keeps you interested, involved, and motivated – my job is never boring and I like the diversity it offers. IT is a great career for young women to pursue, because it offers a variety of positions such as analytical, technical, project leadership, or managing people. Many IT companies today allow their employees to telecommute so you do not necessarily need to live in a big city to have a career in information technology.
